Resident Inspirations

Come and say 'hi' to our two respond artists, Single Cell Collective and Stuart Bowden who will be in residence at the Zion centre from January through to March! Together these artists are guaranteeing that music and dance will pour out of every nook and cranny in the building!

Also we are looking for a new respond artist or group of artists who can helo us engage young people on a digital platform, guiding us towards the vision of being at the heart of the digital revolution within the world of creative media. See Bottom of page for further details.

 

Single Cell Collective- Finding Zion

Single Cell Collective are a group of musicians who will be bringing their project Hulme Buskers to the Zion and the Hulme area. 

Through their project - Finding Zion - They're hoping to really engage with musicians in the local community and through a series of networking, performing and jamming events create acommunity of local artists who will take to the streets on Saturday 27th March for Hulme busking in which every corner of Hulme will be filled with street musicians who will reconverge at the Zion for a final collective performance.

 Other Single Cell events to look out for include:

  • Critical Mass - The monthly cycling event will be culminating at the Zion centre this February with live music and a party! Open for anyone to attend - especially if you have a bike! Taking place on Friday 26th of February - 6pm-midnight
    Critical Mass was a critical success! A good time was had by all and photos can be found HERE!

  • People's History of Hulme - Create a fantasy mao and embark on a metaphysical tyreasure hunt, discovering performers, musicians and other surprises on a psychogeographical tour of Hulme exploring politics, regeneration and myth.
    Sunday 7th March - 1pm
  • For Folk's Sake - The reknowned folk night in which folk musicians and music lovers can meet up, listen to live acts and maybe even perform! Featuring Little Red Rabbit's Anna Kashfi, Mab Jones and other special guests
    Thursday 18th of March - 8pm

  • Noiz @ Zion - An Incredible Opportunity for MCs, DJs and spoken word artists to collaborate with experimental electronica musicians. An afternoon workshop with music facillitators followed by evening performance.
    Saturday 20th of March - Workshops 2-5pm, Performance 6-8pm


  • People's Kitchen Meal & Film Night - The Collective are looking for local film makersto help put on a film night and showcase in which we can appreciate Hulme's rich cultural history and heritage. Delocious food will be provided on site by People's Kitchen.
    Tuesday 23rd of March - 6pm-11pm

  • Hulme Busking - Finding Zion culminates with a day in which Hulme can reveal its true musical creativity. featuring musical performances in spaces all around Hulme. Look out for surprise acts in unusual locations. The day ends with special performances at the Zion Centre
    Saturday 27th of March - 12pm-9pm

 Stuart Bowden & Architectonic

Stuart Bowden 

Professional dance artist Stuart Bowden will be experimenting with "Architectonic" to combine his dance expertise with a direct interaction with the space.

Stuart Bowden is a professional dancer who has been performing for nine years. he has worked with companies such as David Hughes, Earth Fall Physical Theatre and Diversion.

Zion is pleased to welcome him to his Respond Artist Residence. Stuart will be delivering a series of dance workshops which explore movement, physicality and dance in a studio setting with all ages and abilities.

Running alongside the dance workshops, Stuart will be exploring the Zion Centre's architecture and how dance can be choreographed, rehearsed and performed in alternative spaces.
