Creative Curriculums

At Zion Arts we believe that creative learningand practices can be used across the curriculum to enrich teaching in new and unconventional ways. Whether matching Maths with Music, Art with Science or History with Drama we can make classroom teaching come alive, engaging students in alternative ways to academic delivery.

For PUPILS: Creative methods can stimulate pupils in different ways, some students may be more receptive to creative or visual learning styles as opposed to than academic methods. Our creative approaches are inclusive, hands on and are a different avenue to understanding themes and topics learning through exploring, risk taking and above all having fun! Pupils experience working alongside a professional artist in a workshop rather than a lesson environment with a different structure and feel.

"The process of making the leaves stimulated conversation with most of the discussion coming directly from the children, they were using scientific language in an arts realm"

"Those that don't shine academically were able to shine artistically, it helped the children who struggled with particular subjects to tackle the themes and use the vocabulary through the artwork"

For TEACHERS: Our Artists work alongside teachers to inject creativity into the curriculum in interesting and unheard of ways! We have found that when our artists and teachers work together the results can be surprising and that both parties exchange professional skills throughout the collaboration. Our projects can provide opportunities for teachers to work closely alongside artists gaining inspiration, support and arts training to aid their teaching in new and exciting ways in the classroom. The arts skills learnt mean that they continue injecting creative methods into their classroom teaching long after the project is finished.

"Since the project with Zion there has been lots of talk and definitely more confidence and motivation in the teachers to use creativity in the classroom. Working with the artists gave them the practical support to look at the curriculum and generate ideas and the collaboration really brought out the creative in them."

Our most recent Creative Curriculums project has been...

Dancing Greek Shadow Puppets: Using imagery from ancient Greece we created split pin puppets looking at movement and choreography to create battle and dance sequences. Working with our dance artist in residence Stuart Bowden the young people choreographed and performed their own live dance routines behind a huge projection shadow screen in Zion Theatre. Film coming soon!
