Apple Projects
We use the latest Apple technology throughout our educational work particularly in our music, film, comic and animation projects. We encourage young people to be hands on and creative with technology and use the tools of the creative industries from an early age. We are supported by GBM Digital Technologies who are Apple educational specialists using the iLife package(Garageband, iPhoto and iMovie), iCan Animate and Comic Life in schools across the curriculum. In a constantly evolving field we also offer advice and CPD for teachers on iLife software packages as well as showing the ways creative ICT and multimedia can be used both in our sessions and more widely as a tool to aid learning in everyday classroom teaching.
Projects:
- Film with iMovie
- Stop Motion Animation

Spotlight on... Comic Life projects
Comic workshops are a[Image: ] fun and imaginative way to develop illustration and literacy skills through storytelling. Their use of visual clues strengthen the meanings found in words which in turn supports and encourages reading. We begin by looking at the stylistics of comic strips and how dialogue, thoughts setting and plot progression are achieved through frames. Next we look at characters and superheroes and see how their personalities are brought to life through drawing; sketching different emotions and expressions. The young people then begin to create characters and construct their own narratives through storyboarding and work towards a final strip which is then compiled into a Comic Book for them to keep. The open nature of comics means they can cover virtually any topic, thinking about how a story will end is an excellent way means of looking at decision making and choices that may lead to different outcomes. This year we are making multimedia comics using Comic Life software on Apple Mac. The software allows you to create multimedia comic strips from live footage, web cams, photographs and hand drawn illustrations. Young people can 'comicify' themselves and appear in their own strip, making themselves a hero or a baddie! Comic Life is increasingly being used by teachers as a literacy aid particularly for those children with a low interest in writing and who are more engaged visually.
For a recent example of a comic life project read about our Malice project for Manchester Book Award in our Featured Projects section.
